A Wave to Impressionism 2022

“Regularity, order, desire for perfection destroy art.  Irregularity is the basis of all art.”

 Pierre-Auguste Renoir

“We live in a rainbow of chaos.”

 Paul Cezanne

The images in A Wave to Impressionism were taken with a Hasselblad 100 MPx camera outfitted with a 300mm lens.  This combination certainly is capable of capturing “regularity, order, and perfection.”  Yet, none of these attributes can be seen in these images!

A wave swells, builds, moves, crests and crashes.  So, an image that freezes this motion sells short the full nature of the wave.  Here are images that were taken through a dark-grey, neutral-density filter with the camera aperture left open from swell to crash – the result captures the impression of the entire wave.

These images are available printed on Fuji Flex color photographic paper mounted on aluminum composite material (“ACM”) and protected with a 3-mil matte laminate.  The images are dominantly displayed in 3x6 feet format.  Smaller formats are available, for example 2x4 feet.
